Chairperson of the A.P. Women’s Commission Nannapaneni Rajakumari on Sunday said the BJP, which was also party to the bifurcation of Andhra Pradesh, deceived the State by failing to fulfil the promises made in the Reorganisation Act.
Addressing the media here, Ms. Rajakumari said the State was given a raw deal by the Centre on all issues, and cited as examples the meagre allocations for educational institutions, construction of State capital, and even in declaration of the Padma and ‘Nari Shakti’ awards. “Senior BJP leader M. Venkaiah Naidu was sidelined by the Centre and made Vice-President,” she alleged. The Prime Minister should be like a father figure to all the States. He should allocate funds to A,P., which had suffered losses due to the unscientific bifurcation, she said.
Accusing the Prime Minister of taking unilateral decisions on issues such as demonetisation, causing severe hardship to the people, Ms. Rajakumari said people could not withdraw their own money from banks. She wondered how many corrupt people had been caught after demonetisation.
Ms. Rajakumari also found fault with the BJP leaders for targeting Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu when he was doing his best. She said the TDP government had waited patiently for four years for the Centre to keep its promises.
She said the people of the State would teach a lesson to the BJP in the next elections as they had done to the Congress in 2014.
When reminded that the Chief Minister had supported demonetisation and GST, Ms. Rajakumari said as an alliance partner and part of the government, they had do it.
When asked why the TDP was not quitting the NDA, Ms. Rajakumari said she would not talk about politics and that she was only expressing her anguish at the apathetic attitude of the Centre towards the State.
