Central Govt Orders to Stop the Coffer Dam

Amaravati : Based on the suggestion of Union Water Resource Ministry Secretary Amarjit Singh,  Ministry of Water Resources write a Letter to Andhra Pradesh Government asking it to stop the construction of Polavaram's Coffer Dam. The Ministry is of the impression Polavaram Project doesn't require coffer dam.
Central Govt expressed the doubt whether there is the necessity for Coffer Dam or not for a project like Polavaram. A committee has been constituted to pass a judgement in this matter. The Panel formed by National Hydro Power Corporation (NHPC) will visit Polavaram site and submit a report to the Centre. Engineer-in-chief of Polavaram Project ordered Authorities to stop the works of Coffer Dam.
Coffer Dams means, these are Dams which are constructed in front & after the Actual Dam to divert the water flow at the time of floods. Today the meeting will be held at Vijayawada regarding this.
