Onion market hit Rs 40

Amaravati : Onion prices increased in open market around the State, Rythu Bazar in the state have been facing heavy shortage of onions and some Bazars have not reported any arrival of stock for previous days.
While the prices of onion reached almost Rs 40 per kg in retail market, several markets in the state have stopped providing onion. Only few sellers are supplying onion. Though the situation has been continuing like this for two weeks, the state government did not take any steps to supply onion to Bazars.
The situation started two weeks ago as the prices rise at Lasalgaon in Maharashtra, with the low supply of old stock and decrease in output of new Kharif crop. The situation affected Kurnool, the biggest onion market in AP.
The maximum price of onion at Lasalgaon market on July 25 was Rs 1,011 per quintal which reached Rs 2,400 by August 4. In Kurnool market, the maximum price was Rs 940 on July 25 which rose to Rs 2,750 per quintal by August 4. The arrival of produce at Lasalgaon on July 25 was 29,035 quintals which declined to 20,000 quintals on August 4 as per information available.
