Kapu leader Mudragada Padmanabham under house arrest in Kirlampudi village of Ap

KIRLAMPUDI: Tension is building up in Kirlampudi village in Andhra Pradesh, the native village of Kapu leader Mudragada Padmanabham, after police put him under house arrest this morning.The detention was to foil Padmanabham’s march on Amaravati to press for inclusion of Kapus in the Backward Class list. Police said there was no permission for the rally.Padmanabham was supposed to begin his march this morning from Kirlampudi. Since there were indications that the march would be stopped, his supporters massed in the village last night though all roads to the village were barricaded.


With activists arriving in droves, police are determined not allow anyone into the village. Police chief N Sambasiva Rao has warned youngsters against taking part in the rally as an arrest would mar their future.Police said Padmanabham will be under house arrest for 24 hours.Padmanabham dared police to arrest him and put him in jail. But police told him they had orders only to keep him under house arrest.In the upcoming capital of Amaravati, all vehicles were being checked. All roads that lead to the Secretariat at Velagapudi are being thoroughly checked while the road on Krishna embankment that runs past chief minister's N Chandrababu Naidu's residence has been closed to traffic.
