Relief pours in from various quarters for flood-hit State

Tirupati residents from various quarters are collaborating to help those affected in the Kerala floods.

Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanams (TTD) employees, under a voluntary service organization named H2O (Helping To Others) that was set up in 2016, have roped in doctors, chartered accountants, insurance agents, policemen, government officials, retired employees, traders across India, USA and Oman for the relief.

While cellphone applications like WhatsApp helped raise ?3 lakh, rice, wheat flour, baby food, cereals, pulses, sugar, sanitary napkins, soaps, toothbrushes, disposable plates, all weighing 3.5 tonne, were sourced from various places here.

“Initially, we planned to visit Kerala to distribute the materials, but decided to use the railways to avoid road travel,” said TTD Assistant Accounts Officer Rohit Verma, who led the relief.

The materials were handed over to Tirupati Station Director K. Satyanarayana, who arranged its dispatch to Thiruvananthapuram via a special flood relief train.
