Jagan's comments on Kapu reservation may backfire

After his personal remarks against Pawan Kalyan have damaged his image to the core particularly among a section of people, Jagan's fresh comments on Kapu Reservation have added to his party's woes. Jagan made it clear that he cannot commit on the Kapu Reservations as it is under the purview of the Supreme Court. He, however, tried to appease them by promising that he would double the funds to the Kapu Corporation if he comes to power after the next general election.

Jagan's comments on Kapu Reservation may backfire, say political analysts. Despite knowing that Supreme Court ruling on reservations would hamper it, Jagan, Mudragada & co have been mounting pressure on Chandrababu. In fact, Chandrababu won the hearts of Kapus by passing the resolution in the Assembly whereas YCP boycotted the Assembly session.

While Naidu has been making right moves to work for the development of the weaker sections of the Kapu community and also without affecting the BC community, Jagan's hands-up on such a crucial issue is inviting criticism from his own party leaders who are finding fault with Jagan's statement ahead of the 2019 elections. Since Kapu community is a deciding factor in the elections owing to their population, political analysts opine that Jagan may pay hefty price for his statement.
