3,500 cusecs water is being released from Prakasam barrage

About 3,500 cusecs water is being released from Prakasam barrage, in Vijayawada, after lifting five gates. The barrage was filled to capacity of 12 ft. and officials informed this morning that the gates would be lifted if it rises further. The excess water has been let out into the sea.
Residents of lowlying areas were cautioned before the release of the water. Prakasam barrage was filled due to heavy rains in the region, leading to flooding of Krishna river. The excess water from Pattiseema project too have been let out into the barrage, filling it to capacity.
