HC asks to inform about food officer's appointment in Telugu states

The Hyderabad High Court on Tuesday directed chief secretaries of AP and Telangana state to inform the court explaining how many food safety officers were appointed in both states as per the earlier assurance given to the court and steps being required to curb the usage of carbide in ripening of fruits.


A division bench comprising Chief Justice Thottathil Bhaskaran Nair Radhakrishnan and Justice Ramesh Ranganathan, while dealing with a case taken up suo motu based on reports with regard to the rampant use of calcium carbide in ripening of fruits, expressed at the casual attitude of the authorities in taking steps to prevent food adulteration.


Stating that the issue involves the health of the public at large, the bench said that they are hoping that the authorities will take serious and sincere steps to protect the health of the citizens of both state. The bench adjourned the case to July 17.
