AP CM N. Chandrababu Naidu did not meet Telangana Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao who visited Andhra Pradesh on Thursday to make an offering at the Kanaka Durga temple in Vijayawada.  It was expected that the two chief ministers would meet but the fact that they did not shows the differences between them persist. It is the convention for a Chief Minister to welcome a visiting Chief Minister, but on Thursday Mr Naidu went off to Srikakulam for a district visit.

The two chief ministers have been avoiding each other recently. Though both attended the recent Niti Aayog meeting in Delhi, they did not meet each other. Mr Chandrasekhar Rao was absent from Karnataka CM H.D. Kumaraswamy’s oath taking ceremony where he would have had to share the dais with Sonia Gandhi, Rahul Gandhi and Mr Naidu.

As Mr Naidu has become a bitter political enemy of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Mr Rao has gone soft on the Prime Minister, fuelling speculation that he is not averse to some alliance there. It may be recalled that in the last Parliament Session, the TD moved a no-confidence motion against the BJP-led NDA government but though all opposition parties supported the no-confidence motion, TRS MPs along with AIADMK MPs stalled the proceedings of the House with their demands, and the no- confidence motion could not come up for discussion.
