KURNOOL: Srsailam temple executive officer Sri Rama Chandra Murthy on Thursday issued a showcause notice to Kanchi Kamakoti Mutt administration for allegedly letting its drain water into the pushkarini. The notice was issued after this newspaper carried a story on the pollution of the pushkarini.

“The mutt has been denying time and again. But we need to put a stop to this,” he said. Due to the toxicity of the drain water in the pushkarini, the pilgrims were shying away from taking a dip, a temple official said. Samudrala Krishnam-urthy, Kanchi Kamakoti Matham dharmadhikari at Srisailam, who lives in Hyderabad, said there was no truth in the report that the matham’s drain water was polluting the pushkarini. He said the drainage water of the mutt is connected to the underground drainage system of the Srisailam devastanam.
