A.P. Legislative Public Accounts Committee Chairman and YSR Congress MLA Buggana Rajendranath Reddy has moved a breach of privilege notice against TDP MLA Y. Srinivasa Rao and Rajya Sabha member K. Ravindra Kumar in their respective Houses, for accusing him of “divulging information that is in his possession in the course of his official duty as PAC Chairman.”

In a letter to Speaker Kodela Siva Prasada Rao, the PAC Chairman said Mr. Srinivasa Rao had accused him of “conduct unworthy of the office of MLA.”Mr. Rajendranath Reddy said he was charged with having a secret meeting with BJP MLA Akula Satyanaryana and passing on information to him.

Mr. Rajendranath Reddy said, as PAC Chairman, he did not receive any confidential information, and the documents in his possession were available in the public domain too. Asking the Speaker to verify the list of documents received by him, Mr. Rajendranath Reddy said Mr. Srinivasa Rao made the charge with an “ulterior motive.” “These deliberate attempts to plant damaging impressions on my character and my conduct in the capacity of PAC Chairman and MLA tantamount to breach of privilege,” Mr. Rajendranath Reddy said.

The MLA’s actions lowered the stature of the Assembly, and the PAC and its members, consequently hindering their effective functioning, Mr. Rajendranath Reddy said and sought action against him.A similar letter had been despatched to the Chairman of the Rajya Sabha seeking action against Mr. Ravinder Kumar.

Finance Minister Y. Ramakrishnudu said the onus of disproving the allegations against the PAC Chairman was on Mr. Reddy himself.Though there were grounds for the TDP to move a privilege notice against Mr. Reddy, or refer the matter to the Ethics Committee, the same was not done, Mr. Ramakrishnudu said.
