Government will help neglected senior citizens

Irrigation Minister Devineni Umamaheswara Rao has said that the government will take care of the neglected senior citizens in the State.


He appealed to children to look after their parents and not ill-treat them.


The Minister visited a medical camp organised for senior citizens, in connection with World Elder Abuse Awareness Day, on Friday and said the government was extending pension and other welfare schemes for the elderly. He praised the city police for arranging the programme.


Specialists from Sringeri Hospital, Dr. Pallem Peddeswara Rao Heart Care Centre, Sandhya Netra Vaidyashala, M.J. Naidu Hospital, Andhra Hospitals, AP Superspeciality Dental Hospital, Liberty Hospitals, Anu Hospital, Endocare Hospital, Lankapalli Physiotherapy Clinic, Lions and Rotary Clubs and other hospitals provided treatment.


The A. P. Medical & Sales Representatives Union distributed free medicines to patients at the camp. Police Commissioner Gautam Sawang and other police officers enquired about the welfare of the senior citizens and also distributed medicines to them.
