To press for Special Category Status for Andhra Pradesh and for creation of a railway zone with Visakhapatnam as its headquarters, Lok Sabha member Muttamsetti Srinivasa Rao cancelled his birthday celebration and instead went on a day-long fast at the Nehru Chowk at Anakapalle. He began his fast in the morning after garlanding the statue of NTR.
He said the BJP that let down the people of Andhra Pradesh on the two vital issues would pay dearly in the 2019 elections. He wondered how Prime Minister Narendra Modi could forget his promise of making the new capital of Amaravati better than New Delhi and compensating the revenue deficit.
The 29 visits of Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu to New Delhi seeking implementation of 19 unfulfilled promises in the A.P. State Reorganisation Act went in vain, the MP said.Special Category Status and the railway zone were vital for the rapid development of Andhra Pradesh under the leadership of Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu, Mr. Srinivasa Rao said.
In the evening, Mr. Srinivasa Rao had lime juice offered by Government Whip P.G.V.R. Naidu and MLC M.V.V.S. Murthy ending his fast.
