The people of West Godavari gave an overwhelming mandate to the Telugu Desam Party by electing its candidates as MLAs in all the 15 constituencies, but the latter were least concerned about their problems, charged Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy, Leader of the Opposition in the Assembly.Addressing a public meeting here after achieving yet another milestone of 2,000 km during his walkathon, in West Godavari district on Monday, Mr. Jagan said, on being elected, he would give each auto-rickshaw driver 10,000 a year to cover insurance, road tax and repairs.

The YSRCP leader said while he was walking from Denduluru to Eluru, several people complained that the behaviour some of the TDP MLAs was totally autocratic.Starting with MRO Vanjakshi, MLAs had abused and beaten up Forest and Police Department officials. Even anganwadi workers were not spared and the unruly behaviour touched a new level when they mistreated an additional district judge, Mr. Jagan alleged.

Ruling party MLA Chintamaneni Prabhakar behaved rudely with Ms. Vanajakshi when she tried to stop his followers from taking sand illegally. The Chief Minister, instead of taking the MLA to task, tried to work out a compromise. While one MLA “plundered” the sand reaches of Tammileru, another “looted” the reaches of the Godavari River. There was nobody to check the MLAs who were thriving on land grabbing and settlements, Mr. Jagan alleged.‘Will help auto drivers’.The YSRCP leader said auto-rickshaw drivers had drawn his attention to the harassment they were facing at the hands of the authorities, at several places during his padayatra.
