20-year-old Madhavi is restless in her room

It is hot and muggy, and the mercury has hit the 40° Celsius mark, and 20-year-old Madhavi is restless in her room!

She has enrolled herself in an institution that offers coaching for the CA-CPT course here. After the morning classes, she spends most of the time poring over the voluminous material at the institution. But this summer, she is finding it difficult to concentrate, and is feeling tired. She then decides to enrol herself in an air-conditioned reading room near the institution.The reading room offers her space, and provides the comfort to study for long hours.

Individual cabins


What more, it also has a Wi-Fi connection so that she can search for important topics online. Private air-conditioned reading rooms are now preferred by many students. In all, 18 reading rooms have come up in Brodiepet, which has a slew of private coaching centres.Besides the air-conditioners, they have individual cabins with a chair and a table; a water cooler; and Wi-Fi connectivity.Students pursuing courses in CA, those preparing for the civil services; and a few engineering students use such facilities.

Monthly fee

“Our reading room is open from 7 a.m. to 11 p.m., and we charge 1,500 per head for a month. The demand usually peaks from February, and our halls are full till May 15. Students start coming in from August again,” says Sk. Muzzakir, who runs the Global Reading Room spread over 1,250 square feet in Brodipet Fourth Lane. It as a capacity to accommodate 80 students and is fitted with CC TV cameras too.

Soon in Vijayawada

An engineering graduate, who had worked in Dubai, 26-year-old Muzzakir invested about 8 lakh in setting up the facility, and is planning to open a similar reading room in Vijayawada.
