Traffic came to a standstill on the Prakasam Barrage and the Kanakadurgamma Varadhi following the padayatra of YSR Congress Party president Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy on Saturday.
The padayatra entered Vijayawada from Guntur district through the Varadhi, bringing traffic between Guntur and Krishna districts to a grinding halt for about an hour. People were put to severe inconvenience due to the traffic congestion.
With Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu participating in the Dr. B.R. Ambedkar’s birth anniversary celebrations at Inavolu village in Guntur district, many political leaders and officials made a beeline for the venue. Energy Minister Kala Venkata Rao and many bureaucrats were stuck in the traffic jam.
APSRTC buses, which were reportedly deployed to mobilise people for the birth anniversary celebrations, added to the traffic woes on the barrage.Though alternative arrangements had been made, some inconvenience was caused due to heavy flow of traffic, the police said.
Meanwhile, the TDP and the YSRCP activists entered into heated arguments at the Chittinagar Centre, accusing one another of removing their party banners. Police had to intervene to pacify the activists. YSRCP activists alleged that the banners put up on the M.G. Road (Bandar Road) welcoming the party president were removed on Saturday night.
