AP state CPI secretary K. Ramakrishna has urged  M. Venkaiah Naidu who is the Vice-President and Rajya Sabha Chairman, a direction to the Centre to implement the promises made at the time of bifurcation, including Special Category Status (SCS). Mr. Naidu, who had taken up cudgels for the fledgling State then on the Floor of the Rajya Sabha by assuring to provide SCS for 10 years when the then Prime Minister, Manmohan Singh, had announced the coveted status for five years, should come to the rescue of the State.

Objecting to BJP national spokesman G.V.L. Narasimha Rao’s view that SCS only meant special attention and nothing more, he wanted Mr. Rao, who was newly elected to the Rajya Sabha, to press for a ruling by Mr. Naidu in the Upper House.Afraid of getting exposed, the notice of no-confidence given by various parties had not been taken up for debate so far, he said, adding his party would extend cooperation to the State government in realising SCS. The CPI would stage protests on April 1, urging the Centre not to fool the people of the State. It would also observe April 5 as black day, and evolve an action plan to spearhead the struggle for SCS after conclusion of the Budget session of Parliament.
