Drinking pure milk helps infuse calcium, potassium, electrolytes, vitamins and minerals into the body in an easy way. To drive home this message among the public, a bicycle rally was taken out here on Sunday, with students spearheading the movement.
The rally was organised by the voluntary organisation ‘Sreesh Mandiram’, in association with Sankalpa hospital and Shreeja Mahila Milk Producers.
Jayatheertha Chary, Chief Executive of Shreeja Milk, listed out the key ingredients of milk viz., 85% water, 3-4% fat and 8-9% SNF (solid not fat), indicating that SNF alone provided the required calcium, potassium, vitamins and minerals. He explained how milk acts as a preventive medicine and the importance of Vitamin D in preventing depression and heart diseases, helping growth and strengthening of bones and maintenance of blood pressure.
Sreesh Mandiram promoter K. Madhu Babu said a public awareness rally would be taken out on a Sunday every month on a unique society-oriented topic. It may be recalled that the rallies taken out in January and February focused on problems faced by parents of special children and ill-effects of using hot plastic respectively.
Psychiatrist Dr. Kishore explained that the involvement of children would not only help them learn, but also carry the message to their peers and the immediate society.
The students merrily went around the arterial roads of the city to spread the message.
