Member of Parliaments belonging to the Telugu Desam Party continue to step up pressure to ensure that the promises made to them during the state’s bifurcation are met.The TDP has been demanding the Centre to fulfil all commitments made in at the time of bifurcation of Andhra Pradesh in 2014.
The MPs said they have raised the demand for Special Category Status because the Centre failed to implement the special assistance measures it announced in September 2016 in lieu of granting special status.

On Thursday, two TDP ministers in the central government had submitted their resignations to Prime Minister Modi on the orders of party chief and Chief Minister Naidu.
Naidu took the decision to pull out his ministers from the central government after Finance Minister Arun Jaitley ruled out the grant of “special status” to Andhra Pradesh, saying it would be an unconstitutional step. Naidu responded by saying that this decision of the Centre was “hurtful and insulting.”
In reciprocation, two BJP ministers in the Andhra Pradesh government also submitted their resignation.
