SC/ST panel identifies needs of Yanadis'

A team of the Andhra Pradesh SC and ST Commission team led by Chairman K. Sivaji on Wednesday visited Yanadi habitations in the town to get an idea about their livelihood strategies and access to basic amenities.

As part of the visit, the commission inspected schools and housing facilities.

Speaking to newsmen, Mr. Sivaji announced that the commission would ensure that the all the members of the Yanadi tribe got voter ID cards on a war-footing.

“Setting up of a special Public Distribution System outlet and housing facility have been found to be the immediate requirements of the community in the town,” said Mr. Sivaji.

The commission directed the civic body authorities to ensure access to better health care to the Yanadi families.

Krishna District Collector B. Lakshmikantam and Superintendent of Police Sarvasresth Tripathy met Mr. Sivaji during the grievance cell programme conducted by the commission. The commission enquired about the release of compensation to the victims of atrocities and implementation of welfare schemes being implemented under SC/ST sub-plans.

Addressing the officials and the public, Mr. Sivaji said the commission would explore all the possibilities to extend better health care to those suffering from kidney ailments in A. Konduru mandal in the district.

Other members of the commission — K. Narahari Vara Prasad and N. Sudharani — accompanied Mr. Sivaji during the visit.
