SEC directs officials to get ready for Gram Panchayat elections

Warangal: State Election Commissioner (SEC) V Nagi Reddy directed officials to make necessary arrangements for the conduct of Gram Panchayat elections and asked them to make requisition for the additional ballot boxes as they are to be brought from Karnataka and Maharashtra.

The SEC held a review meeting with Revenue and Gram Panchayat officials of the five districts carved out of erstwhile Warangal district here on Friday.

Reminding that they had already trained officials over the conduct of the polls, he stressed on the need to train the master trainers.

Explaining about the arrangements being taken for the polls, Warangal Urban Collector Amrapali Kata said that they have already identified the polling staff for the elections and added that proposals have been made for the formation of 26 more Gram Panchayats (GPs) in the district in addition to 130 existing GPs.

“We have also proposed the creation of 156 new wards,” she said, adding that there is a need for 913 ballot boxes.

Jangaon Joint Collector M Vanaja Devi said that the elections should be conducted for 298 Gram Panchayats including 91 newly proposed ones. Mahabubabad JC Damodar Reddy said that proposals have been made for the creation of 238 new Gram Panchayats in addition to 231 GPs.

Amoy Kumar, JC, Jayashankar Bhupalpally, said that polls would be conducted for a total of 436 GPs in the district.

Warangal Rural JC M Haritha said that proposals have been made for the creation of 136 new GPs in addition to 266 existing ones.

Later, the SEC made a presentation explaining the measures to be taken for the smooth conduct of the polls. Warangal Police Commissioner G Sudheer Babu, Warangal Urban JC Dayanand, SPs of Jayashankar Bhupalpally, Mahabubabad, Mulugu sub-collector Gowtham and others attended the meeting.
